Verified Licenses or CT State Identification Cards
Beginning October 3rd, 2011, CT License and CT State ID Card holders will have an opportunity to choose a verified or non-verified identification. The program stems from national identification standards resulting from the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the U.S. It is also designed to offer residents additional protection against identity theft by having a historical record of proven original identity documents shown to DMV.
Individuals wanting a license or ID card indicating their identity has been verified will need to present certain original, unexpired or certified copied documents. These documents will verify an individual’s:
- Identification
- Social Security Number
- Connecticut Residency
- Name Change Documents (if applicable)
Complete information about the program, including required identification, can be found at www.ct.gov/selectCTid
Individuals not wanting this verification can simply decline and renew their regular license or CT State ID card. If someone declines, a valid U.S. passport can serve the same purpose as the verified license or ID card at federal screening checkpoints.
Note: Non-U.S. citizens requesting a Verified License or ID card must visit a Full Service DMV location. AAA office cannot process these requests.
Anyone with a renewed license can drive legally regardless of possessing a verified or non-verified license.
