What is included in a driver training program?
- 30 hours of Classroom Instruction (must be at least 15 years, 9 months of age)
- 12 hours Behind-the-Wheel Instruction
- 6 hours of In-Car Observation time
- 2 hour Parent/Guardian Class, attended by at least one parent (certificate valid for 5 years)
When can a student obtain a learner's permit?
A student may obtain a learner's permit once they have reached age 16. Student will have to go to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, and bring a birth certificate and Social Security card.
When can a student obtain a license?
A student will have to have had a permit for six months without any infractions, meet all the requirements for driver education, have a Driver Education Certificate processed by the RMV, and pass a road test.
Where is the 30 hours of Classroom Instruction offered?
AAA Driver Training School offers Classroom Instruction at locations in Cape Cod, Fall River, Merrimack Valley, Plymouth, Rockland and South Attleboro, as well as several high schools in those areas. Classes are held evenings, after school, and special one-week classes are offered during school vacation periods. Parent/Guardian Classes are scheduled in conjunction with each 30 hour Classroom Instruction.
What high schools offer driver education classes through AAA?
Bishop Connolly High School, Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, Cardinal Spellman High School, Diman Regional Vocational High School, Joseph Case High School, Lowell Catholic High School, Notre Dame Academy, Pembroke High School, Presentation of Mary Academy, Rockland High School, Scituate High School, South Shore Vocational, and Weymouth High School. In most cases (except Scituate) the program at that location is limited to students who attend those high schools.
When can a student take in-car lessons?
Once the student has obtained a learner's permit. AAA Driver Training has a convenient schedule of appointments during the day, after school, evenings and on weekends.
How does a student register for driver education?
Call AAA Driver Training at 508-675-2726 (Fall River area), 781-878-0695 (Rockland/Abington area), or 888-222-1375 (South Attleboro/Norwood area). Most of the above listed high schools have in-school registration available. Call for details or Register Online. In-car lessons are scheduled only by calling one of the above phone numbers.
How does a student obtain a driver education certificate?
Once a student completes all of the requirements of the driver education program, the driving school will inform the RMV the program has been completed. The RMV will then issue a driver education certificate (no longer mailed out) which can be seen on their website, www.massdot.state.ma.us/rmv.
How to I schedule a road test?
Road tests may be scheduled once the driver education certificate is issued. Call AAA Driver Training at least three weeks in advance if you would like us to arrange for test and use the AAA car that day.
